Thoughts from my week--- Inside Out and Back Again--
Another busy week, ending with a peaceful Sunday morning! I take the train to Luzern each week and walk by this famous bridge on my way to catch the bus to church. Today it was particularly quiet--
Location, location, location--the church is next to a path that leads to a walk around the lake.. I think I've reached my limit of photo ops here but it has become my own secret hideout for a few minutes..
I saw my shadow today, I know a bit later than the ground hog-- and decided that needs to mean that I can predict something in my future... a wishing shadow!
New date to keep in mind! March 8th-- International Women's Day-- A holiday celebrated in some of the Eastern European countries. My first celebration was Thursday when Alice's family, from Russia, brought me flowers....made me smile...
This week also brought two days of professional development with some great educational minds: Bill Lishman, Arthur L. Costa, Carol Ann Tomlinson, Dr. Bill Rogers, and Bambi Betts-- I was left on that fine line of really inspired ready to make changes and an overwhelmed ledge--
One interesting idea I left with is -"Habits of Mind"-- 16 of them that help us reach deeper understanding--- good things to ponder!
The 16 Habits of mind
Persisting
Communicating with clarity and precision
Managing impulsivity
Gathering data through all senses
Listening with understanding and empathy
Creating, imagining, innovating
Thinking flexibly
Responding with wonderment and awe
Metacognition
Taking responsible risks
Striving for greater accuracy and precision
Finding humor
Questioning and problem posing
Thinking interdependently
Applying past knowledge to new situations
Remaining open to continuous learning
Sweet read, "Inside Out and Back Again"-- One of the Newbery Award honor books for this year. The title fits right now or maybe all the time, things turning us inside out and creating something new within us-- new knowings...
A favorite quote,
Our lives
will twist and twist
intermingling the old and the new
until it doesn't matter
which is which
