Homeward Bound

"Enjoy your Journey!"--words said in German, French, and then English as I leave the train in Zurich... homeward bound. With limited language, I meet two older women on the train, they tell me they are heading to Germany. When traveling alone and directionally challenged a thoughtful glance, a few words exchanged, relief to discover we are headed in the same direction-- are a welcome sight. I'm always thinking, Am I Lost? and words of relief, Not Lost! Women along the way, with bags in tow, if only for a brief moment-- a friendly smile can tell me I'm headed in the right direction. A little girl with big brown eyes sitting on a suitcase looks up at me and says hello. I answer back and she says, "I'm learning English in school." As I have traveled in a place where I don't speak the language moments like these are miracles that I pick up like stones, place in my pocket and give me courage along the way. First stop New York City--time to learn and listen. Interesting how a truth no matter where it is said has a way of weaving into all aspects of me. A few truths that stand out from the conference are: Find deep Joy--be mentors of joy, surround yourself with people who know more, learning from others brings them out of hiding, happiness is belonging to a community with a purpose you believe in.... Time in New York to reconnect with old friends. Listening and laughing to cheer each other on.
Life-- what a big, long journey-- grateful for moments to connect. Across a lifetime some may touch my life for a moment but give me needed light, direction and comfort! I am learning from others, to be more present in the moment-- no matter the languages we each speak. I have a deeper understanding that a smile and a hidden open heart are languages that can be heard. I step off the plane with an extra spring in my step knowing that I am home, for a time... Grateful for those who have carried my bags, looked back and waited, phone call, emails, laughter, I say Danke! As we are all on our journey-- Homeward Bound
