The Russian moms in my classroom are not so excited that we go out in all weather--- even a downpour. I admit that I looked out the window a few times and wondered what we were thinking going out... The Swiss have a saying that I have shared before, "There is no bad weather- just bad weather gear." Children in my class that had rain gear that would survive 40 days and 40 nights found the magic and not the misery a storm can bring!
As I thought about my day on the train ride home I smiled as I remembered Marcus shouting, "I'm all geared up!" Letting me know he was ready to head out-- I have let that thought bounce around for a few days.
We all have days that bring rain but I started to wonder if the difference between thriving in a storm or crumbling was the gear-- maybe not a Dutch designer, Ilse Jacobsen $399 raincoat I have been eyeing-- but the spiritual and emotionally gearing up I do!
I wonder if I'm more geared up and ready for my storms that I'll be more protected and open to the growth and learning more than just the misery- although I had my share of miserable wet socks this week... Little Sarah, with a sturdy pink rain jacket tucked over her face ran up to me. I had to tip the rim of her jacket back a bit to see the smile and then the outstretched hand holding a worm! Happy not to touch it, I was taken in by her smile and wonder as she discovered something in this downpour! Yep- I'm now thinking that my gearing up is going to help me with my tuning in for my own growth and discoveries! The look in Sarah's eyes convinced me!
And then it stopped!! A Saturday morning run to appreciate a blue sky, dry feet, and the green of new life growing. I ran listing a few ways I was going to "gear up" this weekend and remembered that a good run was near the top of the list..
