Thursday's to do list included a tour of an older couple's garden with some of the young girls from church. I have heard about this botanical paradise and was excited to see the myth and the legend myself, with Swiss garden gnomes and all. The plan was to meet at the church at 6:15 and he would pick us up. The bus stopped at 6:24 and I grabbed up my increasingly heavy bag and walked quickly to the church. I rushed in the front door and saw school bags scattered but an empty building... I was six minutes late and they left without me! I knew the Swiss were a punctual people but now I know they mean it.
I was a little stunned and laughed as I pictured a disciplined Swiss gardener pointing to his watch as they loaded in the car. But I welcomed a few quiet moments.. It was a cool evening and I sat on the steps listening to the quiet. I noticed a bush beside me with a reminder of fall.... I sat looking at this red piece of fall popping out of the green. I remembered something someone had said this week, "Change is hard because something is always left behind." I was thinking maybe that is why I long to remember. Something about moving forward and looking back that together help us live in the moment. I decide I'll keep that idea in my pocket for a while as a card load of smiles drives up!
