art outdoors--

Every January I wait for the announcement of the Newberry Award book.  I have been know to judge a bookstore by whether or not they know what the award is, when it is announced, or what book won.....  A little, "You've Got Mail" in me    -- The winner this year,  The One and Only Ivan...  a sweet read....

Thoughts from Ivan this week that have kept me company...

"Homework I have discovered involves, a sharp pencil and thick books and long sighs."

"Memories are precious," Stella adds, "They help tell us who we are."

"I've always been an artist.  I love drawing."
"Why do you love it?"  Ruby asks--  "I pause.  I've never talked to anyone about this before...

"When I'm drawing a picture, I feel quiet inside."

We braved the cold and snow to be artists outside this week-- and I have thought of the importance of moments like these to feel quiet inside.....  I have been looking more for it as Ivan pointed it out..

Remembering the power of the arts and Grace in my life and moments to feel the quiet---

"One place comprehended can make us understand other places better."  Eudora Welty
